The Thin Man

Hilarious and suspenseful comedy/mystery. A scientist disappears, and his daughter (Maureen O'Sullivan) enlists the help of some old friends, Nick and Nora Charles. Nick just happens to be a private detective, so it all works out. Nora insists on getting into the act as well, and they trade quips as they find clues. One of the best of the 1930s Art Deco sophisticate style of films.

Followed by five more Thin Man movies. Notice that "The Thin Man" refers to the victim here and in the next two movies at least, but by 1944's The Thin Man Goes Home, it apparently refers to Nick himself. Just needed the name in there, I guess.
