42nd Street The ultimate backstage musical. It's got everything. The failing director with one last chance to stage a hit show. The chorus girls backed by a rich old man. The newcomer who takes the lead in the play when the star breaks her ankle. The leading man who leads her on, and the chorus boy who wins her heart. Yeah, it's pretty corny. But it's also the best of its breed, that is, early 1930s Broadway musicals. And they were very popular--so popular in fact, that between 1927 and 1930 so many were made that the public tired of them and the movie musical practically died within three years of its birth. 42nd Street brought it back. With a roll call of Warner stock performers, including some new talent like Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell, and a young Ginger Rogers, the cast is excellent, as are the amazing musical numbers directed by Busby Berkeley, and if the acting isn't perfect, who really cares? **** out of **** Cast Year of Release: 1932 More Warner Bros.
