The Adventures of Robin Hood

The adventure film by which all other adventure films are judged. So many classic scenes it's impossible to list them all--Robin Hood swinging down from the trees in Sherwood Forest, nearly being executed but saved by his Merrie Men, taking out a room full of soldiers by himself. Errol Flynn becomes the definitive Robin Hood here, and no other portrayals have come close (okay, Douglas Fairbanks in 1922 came close, but few people will watch silent films these days...). The Technicolor is beautiful (full color itself had only been in use for two years, and it would soon become much too expensive to use due to World War II), Olivia de Havilland's Maid Marion is lovely and demure, though not afraid to expose herself to danger, and Warner Bros. stock supporting company (Alan Hale, Basil Rathbone, Claude Rains, Patric Knowles, Eugene Pallette, etc.) shines its brightest.
