Dead of Night

Creepy little British horror film. A man awakes, receives an invitation to a party at a manor and goes to the party. Everything seems a little familiar, he thinks, even though he knows none of the people and has never been to the manor house. Everyone at the party has had some supernatural experiences, and proceeds to tell about them. It's really about four or five little horror stories in one: a man sees a different room than his own in the antique mirror he just bought, a ghost returns to haunt his friend on the golf course (this one is more humorous and a bit out of place), a couple of others that I can't remember right now, and the last and most disturbing, a ventriloquist's dummy takes over his master's mind. The ending completes the circle of the film in a surreal montage of nightmarish images. It's all very quiet, nothing gory and no jump-scenes, but it builds into a satisfyingly frightening whole.
