Gone With the Wind

Gone With the Wind has become such a cultural icon that it's almost pointless to try to say anything about it. Everything's been said. An epic of epics, depicting the passing of the old South for ever through the experiences of one fiery Southern belle. Other epics may be bigger or more exciting, but none have succeeded in telling its story with the grace and emotion of this one. See it on the big screen if you can, and you probably will be able to at some point, because it's also the most re-released movie ever (all re-releases added together make Gone With the Wind the highest-grossing film of all time).

Of course it's not perfect, but its good points far outweight its bad ones (how Scarlett could pine over Leslie Howard's bland Ashley is inconceivable). Note especially Olivia de Havilland's perfect portrayal of the truly good Melanie.
